Lenny and Angie have been married for five years. They wanted to have some fun and excitement before they decided to have some kids and so they willfully created a very dynamic social life.

The main difficulty, it needs to be emphasized, is that almost everything they do to have fun somehow includes drinking. For example, all of the family get-togethers, dinner engagements, parties with friends, happy hours, and sporting events they attend have something to do with drinking.

If they were responsible drinkers this wouldn't be such a difficult situation. Due to the fact they drink quite irresponsibly, nonetheless, they are beginning to observe some clearly identifiable alcohol-related problems in their lives.

For instance, just five days ago Lenny was placed in custody for a second DUI and has been showing up late for work because of alcohol-related health issues. In addition, Lenny's last two or three performance evaluations at work have been less than creditable and he has begun to fail to remember what he does or says the times that he drinks. As a final point, Lenny has been going through sleep-related problems and his family is starting to worry about his drinking activities.

In a similar way, Angie has been feeling unhappy about life and to manage these feelings, she has been drinking more habitually than any time in the past seven months. Not only this, but Angie has been getting a lot of migraine headaches and having agonizing hangovers from drinking. Finally, Angie has been feeling considerably less active when she gets up in the morning, she has been getting to work late at least once per week, and she has been receiving some well-deserved criticism from her coworkers, relatives, friends, and family members about her hazardous and careless drinking.

One Wednesday evening while watching TV, Lenny and Angie without any planning whatsoever discovered a captivating program about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This television program was a real surprise to Angie and Lenny because several of the alcohol facts that were discussed looked as if they were undeniably related to numerous alcohol related drinking problems Lenny and Angie had been going through.

Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's inquiry and so he recommended that they make an appointment with one of the healthcare professionals at the local substance abuse rehab center to find out more about the gravity of their drinking difficulties.

Paradoxically, although their drinking situation hadn't yet changed, it was clear that Angie and Lenny were at the very least attending to their drinking problems, they were willing to find out more about their drinking behavior, and they were interested in finding out how they could notably lessen or eliminate the alcohol-related difficulties that had begun to emerge.

When Lenny and Angie went to bed that evening, they arrived at a decision that the next day, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the alcohol abuse rehab clinic located just East of the State Capital. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to deal with the alcohol-related difficulties that had become apparent in their lives, they in point of fact had the most refreshing night's sleep they could think of in the last year.
