My husband and I own 2 dogs. They are considered a part of the family and we attempt to include them in many of our activities. This means that we have accumulated a whole lot of dog stuff through the years. It is amazing the amount of advertising there is that gets directed towards canine owners & pet owners in general. The marketers know that people love their housepets & are willing to spend a whole lot of money on them. It seems that each holiday season there's more & more dog stuff in the stores.

This past holiday season I couldn't believe my eyes when I was in the accessory a segment of a national department store. At the start I thought there was a brand-new a segment of doll clothes that was placed in this section. Upon a closer look I realized that the garments were for dogs. Along with the clothes there were beds, toys, an anti bark collar, designer dishes and other dog stuff. This is a shop that doesn't ordinarily have a housepet section. I asked one of the sales clerks when this section of the anti bark collar & other dog stuff had been added. She stated that it was part of their holiday celebration nation wide. It seems that folks were wanting more items that they could acquire, not only for their dog, but for the pet dogs of their friends. I jokingly asked if this did not snub cat owners, but I was told that the feline merchandize was on the opposite side of the display I was viewing.

The canine stuff included very elaborate out-fits for the holidays, along with the anti bark collar. Velvet gowns, satin off the shoulder cocktail gowns, & the more traditional knit sweaters. There were also collars that were studded with sequins & stones. I could tell that the sales clerk wasn't thrilled with this new merchandize. I commented that our female dog would certainly prefer precious stones. When I stated this she took me over to the fine jewelry counter & showed me a display of precious & semi precious collars. I could not believe what I was seeing. I knew that there were specialty stores & catalogs that managed this sort of dog stuff, but I never believed that it would be featured in a national department-store. The clerk mentioned that they had a sizeable display of Halloween costumes in the fall together with special treats for the 4 legged trick or treater's.

I came home & told my husband about the display of canine stuff. He commented that we might be recipients of some of the bits and pieces, because our family members & friends know that we spoil our dogs. I told him that if we did get some-thing I hoped it would be the fourteen carat gold collar with the pearl pendant.
