Iscar right now offers a family of high-performance slitting tools that join the convenience and security of Tang-Grip clamping with the added sturdiness of the new Sumo Tec insert grades.

The concept, already confirmed effective in Tang-Grip parting tools, has now been spread to slitting cutters. In the patented Tang-Grip clamping system, inserts are press-fit into their pockets with a specific hand tool, and are clutched firmly in place without having the need for clamps, upper jaws or set screws that can weaken the insert and impede chip flow. The pocket design utilizes cutting forces to retain the insert seated securely in position, preventing any prospect of insert pull-out. The Tang-Grip clamping system also fosters more accurate slitting cuts plus increased pocket and insert life.

Iscar's Sumo Tec insert grades feature a specialized post-coating treatment which greatly increases tool life and reliability.

Unveiled in late 2007, the brand new Sumo Tec treatment flattens the insert's coated surface to eliminate microscopic stress raisers, reduce heat and friction and improve chip flow. The result is enhanced toughness and opposition to chipping and built-up edge, all leading to longer tool lifespan. The golden-colored side on Sumo Tec inserts facilitates wear detection. Size for size, Tangslit cutters give more teeth than Iscar's SGSF cutters, enabling higher feed rates.

Their greater rigidity leads to straighter, more accurate cuts and lower vibration even in large-diameter cutters. The revolutionary Tangslit TGSF cutters come in 100 to 160 mm diameters, 3 and 4 mm widths and can accommodate the exact same assortment of inserts as Tang-Grip parting tools. Several other sizes will be added.

Available Sumo Tec grades for Tangslit cutters include:
IC808, with a tough submicron substrate below a Sumo Tec TiAlN PVD coating, offering excellent resistance to impact loads and built-up edge. This grade is recommended for slitting heat resistant alloys, austenitic stainless steel, hard alloys & carbon steel.

IC830, supplying extra toughness for heavier parting & grooving including interrupted cuts. It is fitting for any stainless steel and high temperature alloys.

IC908, a hard, fine-grain substrate with excellent chipping resistance, combined with a completely new Sumo Tec TiAlN PVD coating. It is perfect for nodular or gray cast iron.

IC928 and 928A, PVD TiAlN-coated tough grades suited for stainless steel, high temperature alloys and other alloy steels. These grades are additionally recommended for interrupted cuts and heavy operations.

Each Tangslit and Tang-Grip inserts are available in J- or C-type chipformer geometries from Iscar.
